August is here, and it is a special month for me. It is my birthday month! As I celebrate turning 54, I have been reflecting a lot on the journey of the GenX Entrepreneur. We have seen the world transition from analog to digital, and now, we are facing the biggest shift yet. We are no longer just in the technology age. We are in the Creation Age.
And if you are a GenX Entrepreneur, Speaker, or 1099 professional, this is the moment you have to make a choice. Are you going to let fear hold you back, or are you going to embrace the tools that can finally help you build the legacy you deserve?
Stop Using AI as an Excuse
Recently, I sat down with Bridget Bartlett and Marla Harmon on the Leverage & Lead Podcast. One of the biggest topics we tackled was the fear of Artificial Intelligence. I hear it all the time from professionals our age: "AI is too complicated," "AI is evil," or "I am just not going to do it."
But let me ask you a hard question: Is AI really the problem, or are you just afraid to dip into something new?
Life is going to keep going. The industry is going to keep moving forward. If you are sitting on the sidelines because you are overwhelmed by the tech, your seat at the table will be filled by someone else before you even realize what happened. You cannot be afraid of what is here now. You have to figure out how to embrace it, leverage it, and use it to your advantage. If a tool works for you, use it. If it does not, discard it and keep moving.
The Foundation Must Come First
Before you can leverage AI to scale your brand, you have to have a solid foundation. You have to #GetYoASSetsInOrder.
The number one mistake I see aspiring speakers make is skipping the basics. They want to jump straight onto social media and start talking to everybody, but they do not even own their own name online.
Let me be clear: I love Gmail, but your Gmail is not your email. That address belongs to Google. You need to own your domain name. You need a professional email address that comes from your domain. You have to start with yourself first and set up your structure professionally. If your foundation is built on rented land, you will never command the premium fees you are worth.
Security Made Simple for GenX
I know that one of the biggest hurdles to adopting new technology is the fear of security. "How do I remember all my passwords?" "What if the AI goes awry?"
The secret is to focus on one thing at a time. If it does not make sense, we are not going to do it! That is why I teach a simple, structured approach to security. Set a base password, create an extension based on where you are logging in, and add a beginning and an end. Suddenly, you only have to remember the middle part.
When you break down complex systems into logical, manageable steps, the fear disappears. Remember, AI can only do what you tell it to do. When you have clarity in your message and security in your systems, you control the technology—it does not control you.
No Gatekeeping: The Blessing of Selling
For a long time, I was afraid of the word "selling." I thought it was pushy or inappropriate. But then someone shared a powerful truth with me: when you withhold your gifts—when you gatekeep your knowledge—you are actually doing a disservice to the people who need you.
The person who sells their gifts, who actively offers their solutions to the marketplace, will be blessed. Your gift will make room for you!
